Social and recreational life
The University of Oxford, its constituent colleges, and the city itself offer an incredible range of opportunities for students to follow their interests, make friends, cultivate skills, and compete in sports. The Oxford Life webpage provides a great overview of how you can get the most out of life as a student in Oxford.
Find out more about College Life here and see below for a list of Reuben's clubs and societies and free access to Iffley Road Sports Centre.
Reuben clubs & societies
Interested in painting, drawing and other creative arts? Have you always wanted to try, but never had the time or the supplies? Or perhaps you're a seasoned artist already, but want to meet like-minded people?
Come along to ArtSoc, a newly launched Reuben college society which provides you with the art supplies, and you provide the creativity!
Every session a theme or material is presented, but if you want to do your own thing that is great too. We have materials such as gouache, acrylic ink, acrylic paint, canvas, watercolour paper, fabric paint, crochet materials, colourful card and hope to add more. Bring your own if you’d like!
Everyone is welcome!

The Feminist Book Club is an informal, student-led book club to discuss interesting feminist topics, discover new authors and branch out your reading. The book club is actively led by its participants. The key things to know are:
- Students of any gender & from all colleges welcome. We are now partnered with Reuben, Linacre and Somerville, and are open to other colleges to sign up.
- We read 1 book a term, including the long-vacation term. You can sign up termly via the form I will be sharing, so it is okay if you don't want to participate every term.
- We alternate fiction and non-fiction.
- You decide what books to read - via a form where you add suggestions.
- We have 1 discussion per book, with snacks!
- No need to stress if you haven't finished the book for the discussion, just participate as much or as little as you'd like.
- We offer subsidised books for Somerville, Reuben and Linacre students. Keep in mind that if you receive a subsidised copy, your engagement and attendance in the book club discussion are expected.
Please contact Julia (julia.salafrancagomez@reuben.ox.ac.uk) is you have any questions.
Reuben Football Club, founded in 2024, is a mixed team open to all Reuben members who enjoy playing football!
We run training sessions once a week on a nearby 5-a-side pitch on a weekday evening; these regularly have attendances of 12-16 people. Additionally, we play competitive fixtures in an MCR inter-collegiate league and cuppers during term-time on the weekends.
The football season runs through Michaelmas and Hilary terms, which is replaced by Futsal in Trinity term. We also have semi-regular socials: Pub trips after fixtures, visits to local football teams (e.g. Oxford United, Oxford City), and the very important End of Season Awards Evening!
We are always open to new members of the team at all abilities and ages, whether you are a blues player or are looking for a more casual regular kick-about with other college members! If interested, please feel free to reach out to our captain (current Captain’s email: finley.taylor-richardson@reuben.ox.ac.uk) for more information.
The Reuben Makers Society celebrates making in its many forms as an avenue for problem-solving and personal expression. Our events include show-and-tells, workshops, and socials. Contact matthew.yuan@reuben.ox.ac.uk if you are interested in leading a workshop.
Do you want to experience the thrill of rowing in Oxford, be part of a long-standing tradition, and make new friends along the way? If so, join the Reuben Boat Club (RBC), the brand-new friendly and inclusive club for everyone who loves rowing or wants to give it a try!
RBC welcomes people of all abilities and time schedules, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced rower. We are looking for both rowers and coxes to join our crews and have fun on the water. You will receive full coaching from our dedicated team, who will help you improve your skills and fitness at your own pace. All you need to bring is good vibes and enthusiasm!

They will be happy to answer any questions and provide more information. Don’t miss this opportunity to join the RBC family and enjoy rowing in Oxford!

Rugby fives is a fast-paced court sport similar to squash, except you strike a small, hard ball with your gloved hands rather than a racquet.
A taster session, open to anyone interested regardless of experience, will be held in Michaelmas Term 2025. If you have any questions, please contact julian.hanton@reuben.ox.ac.uk.
Do you want to learn how to knit or crochet? We can teach you for free, and you can take home whatever you make!
Do you know how to craft things using yarn already? Join us to create in a cosy atmosphere, maybe even including tea and some snacks!
